Today, we finally get the Ubuntu Karmic Beta!!!

There're lots of ubuntu fans have been expecting today for quite a while!

今天，Ubuntu Karmic （9.10） Beta 终于来到了！！ Ubuntu的Fans们都期待已久了的一天。

Okay! Let get back to the topic, Gnome-shell.

好！不要跑题了。Gnome-shell才是主题。

Gnome-shell is a big change for you if you don't really use compiz on gnome.

如果，你不怎么使用compiz特效，那么Gnome-shell对你来说是一个大变化。

1. the Panle.

We just have only one top panel on our desktop.

桌面只有唯一一个在上方的面板。

Absolutely, the notification area won't disappear. However, other applets are not that lucky. They are all gone.... I added 12 applets on my top panle.... (But this is not the final version of gnome-shell, we still have hope.)

当然，面板的通知区域不会消失。然而，其它的面板小程序都无一幸免，一概消失。我的12个面板小程序都没有了。。。（但是，这不是gnome-shell的最终版，我们依然有希望。）

2. "Activities" button.

2. “活动” 按钮

The orignal menu bar is replaced by this. You can click it or you can just move your cuors to the top left edge of the screen to active it. Also, you can use "alt + F1".

原来的菜单栏就是被这个“活动”代替了。你可以单击来激活，也可以把鼠标指针移至屏幕左上角来激活。也可以用“alt ＋ F1”

There're 3 sections.

总共，有三个部分。

*APPLICATION

＊ 应用程序

This section also shows you all the applications that you are running. If you have several windows of a same application. You can see the highlight belows the icon is different. Right click it! The menu will popup a small list for you to choose the window.

这个部分列出了你正在运行的程序。如果同一程序打开了多个窗口，可以看到图标下面的高亮是不同的。右击会弹出一个小列表给你选择窗口。

It's quite true that I said that the "Activities" is the replacement of gnome menu bar.

Because you can browse all your applications with it, surely, no configuration programs still.

没错，“活动” 的确是 gnome 菜单栏的 代替品。

因为，你可以用来浏览所有的程序，当然，仍然没有系统设置之类的程序。

Just type to search the applications you wanna run. It's not as powerful as gnome-do though.

只需要 输入来搜索 你要运行的程序。不过，没有gnome-do那样强大。

You can't use the search bar to help you get the system setting or configuration programs though. So, you probably need gnome-do.

然而，搜索条并不能让你找到系统设置之类的程序。所以，你很可能需要gnme-do。

Or you can use "alt + F2" to run a command if you can remember the exact command. I think the "Run command" looks quite nice. It would be great if our favorite "tab" key works.

或者你能够用“alt ＋ F2” 去运行命令。 我觉得，“输入命令” 那个面板蛮好看的。如果“tab”键能用上就好了。

*PLACES

*RECENT DOCUMENTS (I don't really use this, in fact.)

＊ 最近的文档 （实际上，我不怎么使用）

Like the applications, recent documents can also be browsed.

像“应用程序”一样，最近的文档也能浏览。

3. Workspaces

3. 工作区域（桌面）

This time you have to add workspace by yourself if you need more than one workspace.

See? On the bottom right corner, there's an "add" button. You can add a new workspace by clicking it.

There's an alternative way to do it though. You drag a window to that corner and the window will be placed into a new workspace automatically .

如果你需要多个桌面，那么现在你需要自己增加了。

看到了吗？在右下角有一个“增加”的按钮。点一点就能添加桌面了。

也有另一个方法，你可以把窗口拖动到右下角。然后，窗口就会自动出现在新添加的桌面里面了。

Too many workspaces?

There's a remove button at the centre of the empty workspace can help you.

太多桌面了？

在空白的桌面的中间有一个移除按钮能帮到你。

Wanna MOVE a window to another workspace?

Use "Activities" again to get the overall view of all the workspace, then drag and drop.

想移动一个窗口到另一个工作区域？

再次使用“活动”，在看到所有工作区域的情况下进行拖放就可以。

Things that bothers:

烦人的问题：

"alt + tab" can't switch windows.

“alt ＋ tab” 不能切换窗口

Applets are missing..

No shortcut key settings for gnome-shell

没有gnome-shell的快捷键设置

windows can't be drag to the other workspace when you are in one of the workspaces, you have to active the overall view first before moving windows between workspaces.

当在一个工作区域中，窗口不能直接拖动到另一个窗口。在工作区域移动窗口前，你不得不用“活动”来激活看到所有工作区域。

The animations are not as slick as compiz.

动画没有compiz流畅

It seems running programs that needs wine may freeze sometimes.

开启需要wine的程序可能会引起假死。

However, I still think that gnome-shell is worth to expect and try it out!

然而，我仍然觉得gnome-shell值得去期待和尝试！
